Is important to connect all the small network nodes to the main network. NMEA is connected to lots of different devices, so a data link layer This means that the layerĭenotes the relationship of physical devices with the network.Īs the name says, this layer carries or transfers data from one network node toĪnother. This layer defines the electrical and mechanical aspects of the physical linkīetween network connections and references the characteristics of the devicesĪnd network interfaces to be used in NMEA 2000. Really., i just want a nice schematic of the network., with images that look like the actual parts.NMEA 2000 network is made up of lots of components, but theyĬan be classified into five major components: It seems the way it is now, the low-level stuff - Triton, for example - is available at Defender for the DIY guy, and the high level stuff is not. I am saying that if i have access to their network design software, i might buy more of their stuff - through a dealer with the services of an installer, especially for the more complicated stuff I'm not saying they shouldn't sell through dealers if they want to. I'm paying a local dealer to rip and replace the old B&G with all new B&G, I don't begrudge them their hardware margin at all. Acted as GC for my house, did the 12V on the boat, fiberglass work, running rigging and splicing, etc. You might not agree with a dealer network plan - but that's their plan. And Navico doesn't have in-country support staff in most geographies. Once Navico bypass the dealer network and offer end-users direct installation support, they undermine their dealers and pull a tremendous amount of zero revenue customer support back to Navico. Navico supports the dealers, the dealers support you. The dealers are supposed to earn dollars from MSRP margins and installation work. The whole reason to maintain a dealer network is to push the design and support costs to those dealers. They should release it to customers because it will help the customers And so the tool is a Navico tool, perhaps with brand support for different brands, but it's developed and supported directly by Navico.
#GENERIC NMEA 2000 CONNECTORS SOFTWARE#
That's clearly the trend, same hardware with modified software differences across the brand lines, which is a fine strategy for getting volumes up, which is necessary to keep pricing down. Metal retaining nuts that corrode solid in months and become completely unserviceableĮxcept the B&G hardware is increasingly Navico hardware - same as used with Simrad and Lowrance brands. If you are gonna be using Maretron cablingĮxcept that Maretron cabling is the worst: once it is planned out., and i can see it., i am half way to buying it.Ī lot of this stuff is fairly plug and play - i don't need an installer to add another Tee and drop cable some builders - Swan, for example, - usually provide great diagrams of everything., but not all do so.īut, I would think it could be a good sales tool - If I am playing around with the schematic of my system., i could easily see myself adding a component here or there., turning it into my dream system. Some installations are done when the boat is built. Not all customers have an installer who provided them with a good schematic of the installation., but having aschematic is very helpful for diagnosing problems.

They should release it to customers because it will help the cutsomers I think there are three versions of the app - one for each of their brands., i want the b&G version -i am assuming it will have the B&G hardware., but, yes, it's Navico's decision i guess Navico's incentive here is to provide an advantage to their dealers, not their customers. And, why should they make it available - it only enables customers to access a level playing field. It would be great if someone had a library of B&G components for this software that they were willing to share. I was just wondering if anyone else is doing this, and how you are doing it.
#GENERIC NMEA 2000 CONNECTORS LICENSE#
I was able to download the (iOS) app, but don't have a license and couldn't run it. So, for example, If i have an H5000 processor, i would like it to look like an H5000 processor on the diagram.ī&G has similar software, but supposedly it is only available to dealers. It seems that you can add custom graphics, but it might be a bit of a pain. This program has many more features than i need - for example, it alerts you to various problems with the network, and can be used to generate order forms and invoices.īut my main issue is that the network i want to document is B&G, and the only graphics in the library are Maretron products. I am really trying to document an existing network, to have it as a reference, rather than trying to actually design a new network.

I have been playing around with this and it is the best software I have found for laying out a NMEA 2000 network
